Regular visits to your vet are an essential part of keeping your pet healthy.
A wellness exam is a routine exam performed on a healthy pet. This may also be referred to as a “check-up.”
Check-ups are important for pets because they’re a good way to make sure your pet is healthy and up-to-date on their vaccines. It is also a good way to detect any health problems. Preventative care allows for early detection of problems and treating these problems before they become serious.
During a check-up, your vet may also suggest a specific wellness program or routine for your pet based on their breed, age, lifestyle, or overall health.
The frequency of your pets’ wellness exams depends on their age and current health status.
Here is the suggested schedule of wellness exams for healthy pets:
Puppies should have check-ups on a monthly basis
Average adult dogs should have at least an annual check-up
Mature or geriatric dogs should see their vet at least twice a year
Kittens should have check-ups every 3-4 weeks
Average adult cats should have at least an annual check-up
Mature or geriatric cats should see their vet at least twice a year
